John William Cottick, 78, of Caseville, was peacefully called home to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 10, 2022 at his home.
John was born June 2, 1943 in Bad Axe to the late Thomas W. and Ann (Danyluk) Cottick. He graduated from Caseville High School in 1961. John was stationed at Naval Air Station Whidbey Island, and finished his enlistment at Guantanamo Bay Naval Air Base in Cuba. John served during the Cuban Missile Crisis, when the Soviets attempted to deploy ballistic missiles in Cuba, nearly bringing the US and Soviet Union to war.
John married the love of his life Coleen Wiechert on October 29, 1966 at the Caseville Methodist church. John regularly attended Calvary Baptist Church and was a lifetime member of the Caseville American Legion, as well as being a member of the Caseville Rod and Gun Club where he enjoyed shooting sports.
John is survived by his wife Coleen; son Clint of Kalamazoo and his daughter Liberty Jo; son Colby (Marci) of Pinconning and their children Keagan and Mikayla May; and his sister Linda (Thomas) Bukoski of Caseville.
A celebration of life will be this summer, with a date to be announced later. Champagne Funeral Chapel is handling the arrangements.
Memorials may be made to Calvary Baptist Church. “Sailors never die, they just drift away.”
