John H. Geissinger, D.C.

John H. Geissinger, D.C., of Caro, Michigan, (originally from Altoona, PA), passed away peacefully on his 92nd Birthday June 27, 2016. He is preceded in death by his loving wife Peggy who passed in 2008. He is survived by his three sons: Tom, Brian, and Scott, his younger sister Jean Haulman, his dearly loved grand-daughter Lori Houghteling and three other beloved grand-children: Stacy Hall, Mark and John Geissinger, plus a total of five great grandchildren: Nathan Houghteling, Nolan Houghteling, Allie Hall, Slade Geissinger, and Gabrielle Geissinger. John was a WWII veteran, with four years of service in the U.S. Navy on the Charles F. Hughes Destroyer. He participated in the Battle of Anzio and many other military campaigns from 1942 thru 1945. After the war and before starting college at Pennsylvania State University on the G.I. Bill, John took a job on the Pennsylvania railroad as a Fireman. He loved to tell stories of stoking the fires in the belly of the steam locomotives as they gained speed and momentum through the long Horseshoe Curve before attempting the climb up out of the valley and over the mountains of Pennsylvania from Altoona to Pittsburgh, PA. John (Doc) brought his Chiropractic practice to Caro in the mid 1950's where he practiced until 2013, a testament to how much he loved being a Chiropractor. He was an avid golfer and along with his son Brian, golfed at courses in FL, S.C., N.C., and many other states, including most of the golf courses in Michigan. He was a member of the Bay City Country Club for decades and dearly missed the friends and golf partners he survived. He also enjoyed bowling for many years. In the winter, he went Downhill Skiing with his sons and grandkids all over the USA, from New England to California and to British Columbia. Over the decades he skied over 25 ski resorts in Colorado alone. John occasionally quipped that, "Skiing for miles down slopes starting at 11,000+ ft. elevation is my annual stress test.” During his middle years John was also a small game and big game hunter. He, along with his father & son Tom often hunted in the mountains of Pennsylvania over the Thanksgiving Holiday, as well as upper Michigan and Canada at other times. John also took his whole family to Lake Rideau, Ontario to meet up with his father (John E. Geissinger) and his sister Jean and her husband Roy Haulman & son Bob Atkinson, for summer fishing trips. John will be dearly missed. He was a positive influence in the lives he touched. He was a generous and great father, a lover of freedom who gave his sons room to explore their own aptitudes and adventures in the world, even if they made mistakes he was always forgiving, understanding, and supportive. A private service will be held for John at the Indianfield Township Cemetery. His remains will reside next to those of his dearly beloved wife Peggy, at rest after a long and very full life.
