John A. Fiebelkorn, age 80, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, May 22, 2008 at his home. Jack was born July 16, 1927 in Pontiac, the son of the late Ernest C. & Helen (Howarth) Fiebelkorn. After his graduation from high school, he attended Michigan State College until he was drafted into the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1945, where he served until 1948. He was united in marriage with the former Tena Baas on March 26, 1949 at the First Baptist Church in Royal Oak. He then continued his studies at Michigan State, graduating with a B.S. Degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1951. He was a ROTC Distinguished Graduate and was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force. Upon completion of flight school, Jack was assigned to a SAC Base and went on to a research and development position in the early stages of the space program. His work on the development of the Agena rocket earned him two Air Force Commendation Medals. Jack received his Masters Degree in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Michigan in 1966 and was assigned to the Pentagon in Washington D.C. in the Space Systems Command. He retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1973. Jack returned to school to receive his certification as an aircraft mechanic, so that he was able to establish AirCaro Services at the Caro Airport, where he later became Airport Manager. Jack was passionately dedicated to his family, and also enjoyed being involved in community affairs. In addition to his loving wife of nearly sixty years, Jack is survived by four children and their spouses, Diane Forman (Kelly Harris) of Thousand Oaks, California, Donna Fiebelkorn, Ed.D. of Whitehall, Michigan, Amy (Larry) Warfield of Burlington, Massachusetts, Karl (Cheryl) Fiebelkorn of Tucson, Arizona; five grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Jack was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters, Ernest C. Fiebelkorn, Roger H. Fiebelkorn, Betty Baas, and Lucille Fiebelkorn.
