John P. Guster, age 78, of Caseville, died Wednesday night, January 28, at St. Mary’s Medical Center, Saginaw.
He was born on September 19, 1925, at the home of his parents, the late Sam and Eva (Neiss) Guster in Detroit and moved with his family to a farm near Caseville in his youth.
John joined the U.S. Army in December of 1943 and served as a paratrooper in Europe, Africa and the Middle East. He was one of nine soldiers who escaped from a P O W camp in Belgium. He also received a Purple Heart while serving there.
On October 1, 1949, he was united in marriage to Jean O’Connor at St Roch Catholic Church, Caseville.
Mr. Guster was employed at Michigan Owen in Caseville for 36 years retiring in 1990. He attended St Roch Catholic Church, was a member of the American Legion and the Caseville Rod and Gun Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spoiling his grandchildren with all kinds of treats and soda.
Surviving are his wife, Jean; three children, Linda (Raoul) Rhoades of Bad Axe, Julie (Jim) Langley of Caseville and Mark (Paula) Guster of Caseville; nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; sister, Bertha (Gordon) Dondineau of Kinde; two sister-in-laws, Helen and Barbara Guster and a brother-in-law, John Himmel all of Caseville.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, Theresa Briesmiester, Mary Himmel and Cathy Guster; and three brothers, Robert, Sam, and Mike Guster.
Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 P.M. Saturday, January 31, at the Champagne Funeral Chapel, Caseville. Rev. Fr. Kenneth Yaroch will officiate with burial in Caseville Twp. Cemetery.
Friends may call from 2 – 9 P.M. Friday and after 1 P.M.
