John Hayward

John Russell Hayward, age 77, passed away Saturday, June 30, 2007 at Covenant - Cooper in Saginaw, following a lingering illness. He was born May 13, 1930 in Keego Harbor, MI, the son of the late Roy Daniel & Pearl Arbetress (DeGeer) Hayward. He was raised in Mt Pleasant, coming to Caro in 1966 from Muskegon. John served with the U.S. Army in Korea during the Korean Conflict. After his discharge from the Army, John married the former Merlyne Jean Smith on January 23, 1954 in Angola, IN. She preceded him in death on February 15, 2003. John was employed with CenturyTel Telephone Company for over 40 years, working most of that time in Caro, retiring in 1994. John enjoyed repairing antique cars and was an active member of Script Model A Restorers Club, and the Caro VFW Post #4164. John also enjoyed repairing lawnmowers, fishing, being a locksmith as well as tinkering with and repairing almost anything. John is survived by one son, John Edward Hayward of Caro; two brothers, Robert Hayward living in Texas, LeRoy E. & his wife Betty Jane Hayward of Caro; two sisters-in-law, Marcella Hayward of Waterford, Carol Lucas of Kanapolis, NC and many nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles and Daniel Hayward and two sisters, Ellen Natzel and Elizabeth Grinzinger.
