John Henry "Jack" DeSimpelare, age 90, of Unionville, died Friday, December 6, 2019, at McLaren Bay Region in Bay City.
Jack was born the son of Frederic and Elsie (Schulz) DeSimpelare, March 25, 1929 in Akron Township. He graduated from Unionville High School in 1947. He attended Michigan Agricultural College (MSU) and served in the US Army. He married Carol Louise Zimmer on June 25, 1955 at the Unionville Moravian Church. Jack was a lifelong farmer, active member of St. Peter Lutheran Church (Columbia Corners), and served as Columbia Township Supervisor for 20 years. He enjoyed spending time with his family, listening to Detroit Tiger games and attending USA athletic events.
Jack is survived by his wife, Carol; 3 sons: David (Julie) DeSimpelare of Unionville, Thomas (Connie) DeSimpelare of Columbiaville, and James DeSimpelare of Ypsilanti; 6 grandchildren: Rebecca (Matthew) Sawade, Rachel (Ryan) Francis, Amanda (Jonathon) Slack, Joshua DeSimpelare, Nicholas DeSimpelare and Leah (Noah) Marino; 2 great granddaughters: Isla Slack and Adelynn Sawade; brother, Karl (Marilyn) DeSimpelare; 2 brothers-in-law: William (Ginger) Zimmer, Thomas (Sally) Zimmer, also Louise (Dalton) Coe; and many nieces and nephews.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents, and sister and brother-in-law, Caroline and Richard McKeage.
Visitation will be Sunday, December 15, 2019, at Juengel & Mellendorf Funeral Home in Sebewaing, from 4-8pm.
The funeral service will be Monday, December 16, 2019, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church (Columbia Corners), Unionville. Visitation will begin at the church at 10am until the time of service at 11am.
Burial will take place privately in the church cemetery.
Memorial donations may be given to St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Tuscola Community Foundation (Patriot Pride) or the ACW Ambulance.
