John Holmes, age 82 years, of Caro, passed away on Monday, July 28, 2008 at St. Mary of Michigan in Saginaw. He was born on September 15, 1925 in Caro, to the late Warren and Doris (Gallup) Holmes. John Holmes and the former Lucy Roose were married on August 14, 1948 in Caro, and he was a lifelong resident. John was a World War II veteran, having served in the U.S. Army, 20th Armored Division. Mr. Holmes was a machinist and had worked for thirty-two years at Universal Engineering in Frankenmuth and eight years at Engineered Tools in Caro. For years he was involved with Ham and CB radios and manual controlled model planes. John was a member of the Caro V.F.W. Post #4164. He is survived by his wife, Lucy; four children, John L. (Diane) Holmes of Caro, James W. (Colleen) Holmes of Mayville, Doris E. ( Richard) Low of Vassar and Randy L. (Monnie) Holmes of Caro; a daughter-in-law, Susan Holmes of Caro; twenty grandchildren and numerous great- grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Richard Holmes in March of 2007; two sisters, Bonnie Brustmaker and Elmira (Mike) Williams; one brother, Hallie Holmes; and one nephew, Mark Brustmaker. The funeral service will be held at the Collon Funeral Home in Caro on Wednesday, July 30, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. with his son, Mr. James Holmes, officiating. Burial will follow at North Grove Cemetery with military honors under the auspices of Caro V.F.W. Post #4164. Visitation will be at the Collon Funeral Home on Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m. Memorials may be made to the Juniata Christian School.
