John Steve Homakie

John Steve Homakie of Unionville, age 96, went home to be with the Lord while surrounded by his loving family on Friday, December 28, 2018. John was born August 9, 1922 in Owendale, the son of the late John and Anna Udvari. After the death of his parents when he was very young, he was adopted by Katie Homakie. He then boarded with Zeph and Bonnie Putnam where he worked as a farm hand using a team of horses. John was a proud World War II Army Sergeant veteran, having served his country while stationed in London, England and Paris, France. Farming was his passion, and he purchased his first parcel of land upon returning home from the service with money he had saved. John was a career farmer and was amazed at the new technology that kept coming along year after year. He was a very hard worker and always kept the Sabbath Day Holy. He married the former Bonnie McNeil on November 1, 1947 and was blessed to have celebrated seventy-one anniversaries with her. John was a longtime member and usher at the Colling Church of the Nazarene. John is survived by his loving wife, Bonnie; three children and their spouses, Karen & Frank Storm, Janet & Leonard Walther, John W. & Heather Homakie; nine grandchildren; and fourteen great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one grandson, Ryan Storm; two sisters, Mary Molnar and Helen Mustard; and one niece, Diana Baker. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 3, 2019 at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home in Caro with Pastor Karen Wolfe officiating. Burial will be at the Almer Township Cemetery in Caro, alongside his adoptive mother.
