John Kahmann

John Eberhardt Kahmann, age 82, of Houghton Lake, our beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed away January 10, 2022 in Grayling, Michigan.

John was born on July 25, 1939 in Detroit, Michigan to Eberhard and Eleanore (McCallum) Kahmann. He joined the U.S. Army in 1956 and was a paratrooper in the 82 ^nd Airborne Division. He also trained and received certification in Field Radio Repair at the U.S. Army Southeastern Signal School, Fort Gordon, Georgia. John retired from CMU Public Broadcasting as a Broadcast Engineer, and before that, he repaired TV's and radios. He loved dogs and rescued several from local shelters. He also had a passion for antique radios and old movies. He valued his family, friends, hard work and always tried to do the right thing.

John married Diana Jean Hein on March 28, 1957. He has 3 children: Lynn Harris of Alpena, Marilyn Chubb of Alpena and Cindy Kahmann of Houghton Lake. He has 8 grandchildren, several great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

John is preceded in death by his parents, his wife and siblings: Robert Kahmann, James Kahmann and Judy Heinmiller.

Memorial donations may be given to Disabled American Veterans (DAV) or to a local animal shelter.

A private burial took place at Elmwood Cemetery in Gagetown.
