John J. Komonowski age 90 of Elkton passed away Sunday morning, October 26, at Huron County Medical Care Facility, Bad Axe.
He was born April 21, 1924 in Warren, son of the late Joseph and Karolina (Bebelski) Komonowski. John Was employed at Kern’s in Detroit where he met Betty.
On June 28, 1947, he was united in marriage to Elizabeth “Betty” Veal at Our Lady of Lake Huron Catholic Church, Harbor Beach. They made their home in Warren for seven years, where he worked at Hudson Motor Cary Company, before moving to Harbor Beach in 1954. A short time later they moved to Elkton where they made their home. John drove bus for Indian Trails for 18 years before taking a position at Active Industries, Elkton, remaining there until retiring in 1989.
He was a long time member of St Francis Borgia Catholic Church, Pigeon and the Elkton VFW Post 6013. He loved to working in his yard, doing crossword puzzles and listening to polish music. John was a WW II US Army veteran, hitting the beach at Normandy in the first wave on D-Day, receiving the Bronze Star and a Purple Heart for his service.
Surviving are three children, Connie (Richard) Pachla of Cass City, Joseph Komonowski of Elkton and Robert Komonowski of Denver, Colorado; granddaughters, Stacey (Todd) Bliss of Cass City and Kellie (Leroy) Beecher of Cass City; three great grandchildren, Zackary Rylee and Jackson; his sister, Bernice Jelin of Centerline; sister-in-law, Pat Veal; nephews, Gary Jelin and Bill Veal and a niece, Debbie Oglenski.
Preceding him in death were his wife Betty on March 18 of this year; a sister, Anna Komonowski; brothers-in-law, Chester Jelin, William Veal and Tom Veal and a niece, Diane Jelin.
He will truly be missed by all those who knew him.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 AM Wednesday, October 29, at St Francis Borgia Catholic Church, Pigeon. Rev. Fr. Robert Pare’, pastor will officiate with burial in St Francis Cemetery, Pigeon.
There will be a public rosary service at 10 AM prior to mass with visitation to follow until the time of services.
