John Nicholas Leiterman

John Nicholas Leiterman, age 95, passed away Wednesday, November 18, 2020 at Brookdale Senior Living in Bowling Green, Ohio after complications from a hip fracture.

John was born and raised in Bach (Brookfield Township) (Huron County), Michigan on March 17, 1925 to Peter and Anna (Keller) Leiterman. John served in the navy during World War II. He met and married Deloris Sinkoski in Detroit Mi (divorced). John ran a successful business for eighteen years...the Oxhorn Tavern in Bach about a mile from where he grew up.  After selling the business John and Deloris took a six week well deserved vacation in Europe. His second career was working at Michigan Sugar as a maintenance supervisor until he retired.

In retirement, John belonged to and donated his time at several service organizations and felt strongly about the mission of the American Legion.  In addition, he volunteered at the Senior Center, delivered Meals on Wheels and worked at the bingo hall. As an adult it bothered John that he never finished high school but chose instead to help his father on the family farm.  He decided to take classes at the Oscoda Area High School and received his degree at the age of 76.

John is survived by his daughter, Donna Burke (Klaus) of Perrysburg, Ohio; sisters, Lillian Retzler of Sebewaing and Kathryn Avery of Reese; special friend, Uneta May Bishop; and grandchildren: Andrea Gibbons (Pat) daughter Lauren, Danielle Mairn (Matt) sons Drew, John and Grady, Lily Leitermann and son Marin, Nick Leitermann (Elida) son Nahshan, Annie Trotter and her children Alisa, Isiah and Bryson.

John is preceded in death by his son, Clyde Leitermann.

John will be buried at St. Agatha Catholic Cemetery in Gagetown, Michigan in a privately held service at a later date.
