John Mellish

On May 9, 2010, Rev. John William Mellish peacefully answered Jesus call, “Come Home”. No longer bound by the debilitating effects of Alzheimers, his tongue is now loosed, his mind is alert and he is enjoying being with his mom and dad, his brother, Paul, his sisters, Pauline and Opal, his son, Tim, and his great-grandson, Bryce, who preceded him in death. John was born on April 13, 1926 to John Earl and Mary Rachel Mellish. At age 19 he enlisted in the U.S. Navy to proudly defend his home country in World War II. Upon arriving home from war, John met Joyce in Sunday School at Beulah Nazarene Church. He proceeded to woo and marry his beautiful young bride. John graduated from Owosso Bible College in 1953 and went on to pastor seven congregations in the Eastern Michigan District of the Church of the Nazarene. He was known to be a true shepherd of the flock. One who loved and cared for the sheep God gave him to pastor. John was brother to Pauline, George, Opal, Paul, Fred and Jim. He was father to Sandi, John, Tim, Teri and Deb. Funeral services are being held at the Ellington Church of the Nazarene on Tuesday, May 11, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Jeremy Gomez officiating. Visitation will be held at the Ellington Church of the Nazarene on Tuesday from 11:00 a.m. until time of service at 1:00 p.m.
