John Jacob Mischung, born June 21, 1923 in Sebewaing, Michigan, died peacefully on Sunday, December 29, 2013 after a long struggle with Parkinson's and congestive heart failure. John was the seventh of eight children born to Katherine and Jacob Mischung. John is survived by his wife of 62 years, Elsie Symanzik Mischung; daughters Debra Mischung of Los Angeles; Connie Mischung of Jacksonville, Florida; Karen Mischung (Stephen) Brown of Jacksonville, Florida and her two children Adin Nathanial Brown and Talia Elizabeth Brown; a son, Michael Mischung of Denver, Colorado; his youngest brother Peter Mischung of Port Saint Lucie, Florida; and many nieces and nephews.
John spent his life in Sebewaing. While attending Sebewaing High school he played basketball and baseball. He graduated in 1944. Thereafter, his first business was Mischung Brothers Dry Cleaners with his brother Matt from 1944-1949. Next John worked briefly at Ford Beers Sales in 1949. From 1950- 1956 he worked for Dick Schmidt at Sebewaing Motor Sales selling cars. He married Elsie on April 28, 1951. John played softball for the Sebewaing Brewery team for 20 years on Sundays at the Sebewaing Park. John also managed the softball team for Dick's Cigar Store that played week nights.
John owned and operated Johnnies Motor Sales from 1956 until 1963. John took great pride in his yard. He then sold cars for Draper Motor Sales in Bay City from 1963 to 1983. Throughout the years he also sold real estate. During retirement he worked for Gettel Motor Sales in Sebewaing, played golf, cards, and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He will always be remembered for his smile and that twinkle in his eyes.
A memorial visitation will be held Thursday, January 2, 2014 at Juengel & Mellendorf Funeral Home in Sebewaing from 2-8pm with a service at 4pm. Pastor Charles Kuhl will be officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Sebewaing Township Library or the Sebewaing Historical Society.
