John Michael Murphy, age 87, of Oak Beach died Friday, February 29, 2008 at his home, while under hospice care.
He was born December 6, 1920 in Berkley to the late Joseph and Edna (Jungerheld) Murphy. He held both undergraduate and graduate degrees from Wayne State University. He worked as an elementary school counselor for Royal Oak Schools, Warren-Fitzgerald Schools, and Mayville Schools, retiring in 1987. He was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church, K of C Caro #3224, U & I Club, and a lifetime member of the NEA.
John is survived by his wife Rita; daughter Mary Ann (Walter Miller) Murphy of British Columbia and son Timothy J. of Davison; grandchildren Devin (Penelope Turner) Miller of British Columbia and Bridget (Adam Bergeron) Miller of Ontario; and great-grandson Declan Miller.
He was preceded in death by his brother Joseph and sister Louise.
A funeral mass will be at 11:00am, Wednesday, March 5th at St. Michael Catholic Church, Port Austin with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be 2-8pm, Tuesday, at the Champagne Funeral Chapel of Caseville and from 10am Wednesday, until the time of mass at church. There will be a K of C rosary at 7pm, Tuesday.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude Hospital.
