John B. Schaefer, 71, of Pigeon passed away Monday, August 26, 2024 at Country Gardens Assisted Living in Pigeon.
John was born September 25, 1952 in Bay City to the late Joseph A. Jr. and Mae J. (Walther) Schaefer. John graduated in 1970 from Garber High School in Essexville and he received a Bachelor Degree in Business Administration from Central Michigan University. He later earned a degree as a certified financial planner.
On May 10, 1975 he married JoAnn Limberger at Salem United Methodist Church in Pigeon. Together they made their home in Pigeon where he worked for Thumb Bank and Trust and later for Agri-Valley Communication, Inc. He was an active Rotarian for 45 years and was a Board Member of Scheurer Health for 34 years, serving as Chairman of the Board on two separate occasions. He also served on the Board of the Catholic Community Foundation in Saginaw for 6 years.
His love of family and especially his grandchildren were the highlight of his life. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, golfing, playing cards and watching every sport on TV. He took special delight in teaching his grandson Joshua how to hunt and fish.
John is survived by his wife JoAnn; son Matthew (Jamie) of Pigeon; grandchildren Joshua and Brooke; sisters Joan (Dan) Markel of Kawkawlin, Ann (Bill) Whitfield of Port Clinton, OH, Lucy (Wayne) Rezmer of Essexville and Mary (George) Kastros of Jackson; sister-in-law Bonnie (Rodney) Weyant of Martinsburg, PA; and many cousins, nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his brother Mark and brother-in-law James Hall.
A funeral mass will be at 11:00am Friday, August 30th at St. Roch Catholic Church in Caseville with Fr. George Amos presiding. Burial will be in Grand Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be 2-8 Thursday at the Champagne Funeral Chapel with a Scripture Service at 7:00pm Thursday and 1 hour before the service at the church on Friday.
Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
