John Timko

John Timko of Caro, age 83, passed away on Tuesday, March 13, 2018 at St. Mary's of Michigan in Saginaw, with his family at his side. John was born April 5, 1934 on the family farm in Almer Township, the son of the late John, Sr. and Jessie (Roman) Timko. He attended the Parsell Country School until eighth grade, and went on to graduate from Caro High School with the class of 1952. He was employed with International Light Metal Factory in Caro as a certified welder, and Michigan Sugar, along with being a full-time farmer. John was united in marriage with his high school sweetheart, the former Veda Garnet Soule, on February 5, 1955 at the Caro First Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, traveling, and snowmobile racing at the Caro, Sault Ste. Marie, and other races. John also liked music, especially country and blue grass, and owned his music publishing company. Other spare time activities included dancing, square dancing, art work, studying history, especially Native American history, and working with the Boy Scouts and 4-H children. John received his private pilot license and owned his own plane. His greatest joy was watching his children grow up, as well as his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. John is survived by his loving wife of sixty-three years, Veda Timko of Caro; three children and spouses, Mark Jae & Wendy Timko, John Patrick & Jennifer Timko, Laurie Lynn & Patrick Ewald; six grandchildren, Matthew J. & Rachael Ewald, Jessica K. Ewald, Brandi R. Ewald, Jenna M. & Anthony Baldwin, Krysta L. & Brandon Hartwick, Alyse G. Timko; nine great-grandchildren, Aiden, Ean, Braelynn, Nolan, Alanna, Ashante, Jeffery, Wendell and Bailey; one sister, Margaret Botsford of Caro; two sisters-in-law, Helen Timko and Ruby Steele; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by four brothers and one sister; two sisters-in-law; and three brothers-in-law. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, March 19, 2018 at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home in Caro with Rev. Jane Gehler officiating. Burial will follow at the Indianfields Township Cemetery in Caro. The family will be present to receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 12:00 p.m. until the time of the service at 2:00 p.m. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorial contributions to the John Timko Family Discretionary Fund, c/o Veda Timko, 205 West Sherman Street, Caro, MI 48723.
