John B. Voss of Fairgrove, age 93, passed away on Tuesday, January 8, 2019 at his home. John was born August 17, 1925 in Cass City, the son of the late Joseph and Mary (Szeredy) Voss. He was united in marriage with the former Bonnie Morton on August 29, 1946 in Elkton by Rev. Ellis A. Hart. John proudly served his country as a radio man with the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was owner/operator of Johnny's Barber Shop in Akron for twenty years then went on to work as a barber at the Caro Regional Center, retiring in 1989. John was a member of the Akron United Methodist Church until its closing, a very active member of the Fairgrove VFW Post #7486, and a member of the Michigan Harness Horsemen's Association. He loved his horses and enjoyed training them, and also enjoyed traveling and time spent with family. John is survived by his loving wife of seventy-two years, Bonnie Voss; two daughters, Carolyn Akins of Indianapolis Indiana, Sally Voss of Caro; two grandchildren and their spouses, Karrie & Jesse Sias, David & Veronica Roller; four great-grandchildren, Alec, Colby and Shelby Sias, John Voss Roller; one sister, Eleanor Ingersol of Fowlerville. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by two brothers, Charlie and Joe Voss; four sisters, Mary Orto, Betty Sherman, Ethel Schoech and Francis Palo. In keeping with John's wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 25, 2019 at the Akron Fire Hall with Pastor Pat Robbins officiating. A luncheon will follow the service. The family would like to extend their thanks to family and friends for their help and support during John's illness, especially Linda and Steve, Marv and Dee, Creg, Cris, Brad, Mike and Agnes. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorial contributions to the donor's favorite charity in memory of John.
