Jose “Joe” Santos age 92, of Elkton died Sunday morning, November 3, at the Huron County Medical care Facility.
He was born July 7, 1910, in Fresnillo, Zacatecas, Mexico to the late Juan and Fransisca (Carrillo) Santos and moved with them to Michigan in the early twenties.
On November 20, 1930, he was united in marriage to Paula Cruz in Corunna, MI. They move back to Mexico in 1931 and returned to Elkton in 1949. He was employed at Michigan Sugar Company, Sebewaing until 1953 when he took a position at the Wallace & Morley Elevator in Elkton, retiring in 1975.
Joe loved being with his family, and playing the accordion for them. He also enjoyed playing horseshoes and visiting with his friends at Ty’s and Bud’s.
He was a member of St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church, the Society of Our Lady of Guadalupe and a former member of Local 15298 United Steelworkers of America.
Surviving are six children, Esperanza “Hope” Hernandez of Ecorse, Alfredo (Georgina) Santos of Elkton, Marie (Dave) Armbruster of Saginaw, Joe (Wanda) Santos of Cass City, Anita (Greg) Harrant of Midland and Rosa (John) Klosowski of Elkton; twelve grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren. Preceding him in death was a grandson, Johnny Klosowski; a son-in-law, Guadalupe Hernandez; six children, three brothers and two sisters.
A funeral mass will be conducted 11:00 AM Wednesday, November 6, at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church, Pigeon. Sr. Theresa Fox and Fr. George Serour will officiate with burial in Riverside Cemetery, Elkton.
A parish scripture service will be conducted 7:00 PM Tuesday at the Champagne Funeral Chapel, Elkton where friends may call from 7 to 9 PM Monday, 2 to 9 PM Tuesday and after 9 AM Wednesday.
Memorials may be directed to the Oliver Twp. Fire Dept.
