Jose Rendon Torrez, Jr. of Vassar, age 80, passed away on Sunday, November 9, 2025 surrounded by his family. He was born in Brownfield, Texas on November 29, 1944, the son of the late Jose and Delfina (Rendon) Torrez, Sr. Jose worked over forty three years for Eaton/Grede Foundry in Vassar. On April 20, 1990, Jose married the love of his life, the former Juana Palomares.
Jose was known for his deep love of music and dancing. He absolutely adored all the family’s babies and played a special role in caring (and picking on) each one. A jokester at heart, Jose believed that teasing was his way of showing affection; if he didn’t pick on you, he probably didn’t like you! Always smiling and full of laughter, Jose brought joy wherever he went. He became an animal lover later in life and enjoyed watching the Detroit Tigers. He loved taking the kids fishing when they were young and enjoyed hunting. Jose was devoted to his family and especially proud of his grandchildren, he never missed a chance to show up for them. Quick-witted, kind, and endlessly loving, Jose truly cherished his family; they were his world.
Jose leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife, Juana; children, Marie (Rolando) Telles, Christine (Dave) Kurish, Sandra Garza, Mona (Mark) Spencer, Danny Korthals, Genie (Wesley) Yurgaites, and Angie (Jesus) Mun᷉oz; grandchildren, Joe IV, Marcos, Michelle, Orlando, Diego, Tiffany, Nichole, Madalyn, Katie, Victoria, Nicholas, Alexandria, Kenya, Mark Jr., Blake, Kyla, Elijah, Isaiah, Arianna, and Mila Jo; twelve great-grandchildren; siblings, Maria, Marta, Jesus, Minerva, Juan, Daniel, Melba, David, Merina, Monica, Dario, Melissa, Santa, and Rafaila and all of their families. In addition to his parents, Jose was preceded in death by his oldest son, Joe Torrez III; youngest daughter, Jackie Jo Torrez; brother, Delfino.
Jose’s memorial service will be on Friday, November 14, 2025 at 12:00 p.m. at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Vassar with Rev. Matthew Arnold officiating. The family will be present to receive visitors on Friday at church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of his service. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider memorial contributions to the wishes of the family, c/o Juana Torrez, 205 West Sherman St., Caro, MI 48723.
