Joseph Habdas, Jr., age 65, passed away Tuesday, February 17, 2009 at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, following a lingering illness. Joe was born October 12, 1943 in Detroit, the son of the late Joseph & Helen (Horbal) Habdas. The Habdas family returned to Caro from Detroit to live when Joe was an infant, and he graduated from Caro High School with the class of 1961. He joined the U.S. Navy and served in Vietnam during the conflict. Joe was united in marriage with the former Connie L. Briggs on July 20, 1968 in her home town of Vicksburg. He was employed for over twenty years for Baker Perkins in Saginaw and for the last twenty years was a machinist with Sebewaing Tool & Engineering Company, retiring in 2007. Joe was a member of the Caro VFW Post #4164. During his free time, he was an avid golfer, and enjoyed working in his garden and caring for his outdoor cats. Joe is survived by his loving wife of over forty-one years, Connie L. Habdas of Caro; one daughter and her husband, Lisa & Matt Smale of Grand Blanc; two grandchildren, Zachary and Claudia Smale, both at home; one sister, one brother and their spouses, Mary Lou & Sam Earl of Caro, Tom & Linda Habdas of Mayville; many nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
