Joseph Kopko, age 72 years, of Battle Creek, formerly of Tuscola County, passed away on Wednesday, November 14, 2007 at Battle Creek Health Systems Hospital in Battle Creek. He was born on January 5, 1935 in Detroit, Michigan to the late Michael and Mary (Ocilka) Kopko. Joe graduated high school in Kingston and then served in the U.S. Army in Germany during the Korean Conflict. Following his service obligation, he attended Central Michigan University. He then went to work at Saginaw Steering Gear and then at Active Industries in Marlette. Joe was a Boy Scout in his youth and enjoyed the out-of-doors. He was a member of St. Michaels Catholic Church. He is survived by one sister, Mary (Richard) Marker of Unionville; one brother, John (Ruth) Kopko of Kingston; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Agnes Byrnes; and three brothers, Michael Kopko, Jr., George Kopko and Frank Kopko. Funeral Liturgy will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Caro on Friday, November 16, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Dennis Kucharczyk officiating. Rite of Committal will be at St. Michaels Catholic Cemetery in Wilmot. Visitation will be held at the Collon Funeral Home on Thursday from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Friday from 9:00 a.m. until time of service at 10:00 a.m. Memorials may be made to American Heart Association.
