Joseph B. Pelant, age 79, of Lake Twp. near Caseville, died Monday evening, April 15, at Hills & Dale Hospital, Cass City.
He was born December 2, 1922 at the home of his parents, the late Joseph and Frances (Pucek) Pelant in Caseville.
Joseph attended Rock City Country School and Caseville High School. He was a dairy farmer and lived all his life on the family farm.
In the 1950s, Joe was actively involved in planning, cutting of timber and construction of the Calvary Baptist Church, Caseville where he was a charter member. In years past, he taught Sunday school and greatly enjoyed singing the hymns of the church.
All his life Joe had a keen interest and knowledge of the outdoors and conservation. From boyhood, he loved trapping, fishing and hunting, making much of his own equipment. Almost to his passing, Joseph continued to have an excellent knowledge of lakes, rivers and wildlife across northern Michigan and even throughout Canada.
Surviving is his sister, Mary (John) Depner, Sr. of Caseville and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were two brothers, Edward and an infant, Jerry.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 AM Friday, April 19, at the Calvary Baptist Church, Caseville. Rev. Michael Goforth, pastor will officiate with burial in the Caseville Twp. Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Champagne Funeral Chapel, Caseville from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 PM Thursday and at the church after 10 AM Friday.
Memorials may be given the Calvary Baptist Church.
