Joseph M. Rozek, age 82, of Sand Point died Tuesday June 9, in St. Joseph Mercy Hospital, Howell.
He was born July 10, 1926, in Detroit to the late George and Agnes (Albiniak) Rozek.
Joe entered the US Army during WWII and served with the 44th Infantry Division through out the European Theater, receiving a Purple Heart and Bronze Star. Upon returning to Detroit in 1947, Joe joined the Detroit Police Department serving on the Mounted Division and later as a detective. While with the police department, Joe was taking law classes in the evening.
On June 18, 1954, he was united in marriage to Beverly A. White at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Dearborn. They made their home and raised their family in Detroit and later moved to Livonia.
In 1963, he received his law degree from the University of Detroit. That year, he began his law career with General Motors retiring in 1980, and in 1991, he and Bev moved to Sand Point.
He was a member of St. Roch Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus 4th Degree, Caseville Eagles, Caseville American Legion and the American Bar Assn. Joe loved the water and on the Point, he was able to go boating and fishing when ever he got the urge. He also loved sports, especially watching his grandchildren's hockey. He was an avid reader and enjoyed visiting with family and friends.
Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Beverly; three sons, Scott (Laurie) of Livonia,
Rob (Kathy) of Commerce Twp., and Bill (Lisa) of Brighton; seven grandchildren, Danny, Julie, Katie, Joey, Michael, Sarah and Jessica Rozek and two sisters, May Hudson of Chesterfield Twp. and Joanne Matusz of Mt. Clemens.
A funeral mass will be celebrated 11:00 AM
Saturday, June 13, at St. Roch Catholic Church, Caseville.
Burial and military honors by the Caseville American Legion will be at St. Roch Cemetery.
An Eagles ritual will be conducted at 6 PM and a K of C rosary at 7:30 PM on Friday at the Champagne Funeral Chapel of Caseville where friends may call from 2 to 8 PM Friday.
Memorial may be directed to St. Roch Bldg. Fund.
