Joseph P. Sakon, Jr.

Joseph P. Sakon, Jr. , age 83, of Unionville, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, March 2, 2023.

Joe was born in Akron Township on October 10, 1939, to Joseph and Anna (Koepf) Sakon, Sr. He married Rose "Cookie" Mihacsi on April 4, 1959. Joe loved driving semi-truck. He drove for many different trucking companies, retiring from Lee Wood Trucking, and drove for many local farmers in the fall. Joe was a social butterfly and had numerous friends. He enjoyed bowling, golfing, fishing, playing Keno and going to the casino.

Joe is survived by his children: Allen (Lorrie) Sakon, Diane (Roger) Finkbeiner, Karen (John) Thompson, II and Don (Shelly) Sakon; 15 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; his great aunt Annie Alatalo; siblings: Linda (Mike) O'Hare, John Sakon and Anthony (Cindy) Sakon; sisters-in-law; Sally Sakon and Marge Mihacsi; brother-in-law, Ken Billingsley; many nieces and nephews; and dear friend, Diane Hoppe.

Joe is preceded in death by his parents, wife, Rose, and siblings: Richard Sakon, JoAnn Collins, Geraldine Binder and infant brother Donald Francis Sakon, son-in-law, Timothy Bursick; and step grandson, Brandon Thompson.

Visitation will be Thursday, March 9, 2023 at Juengel-Mellendorf Funeral Home in Sebewaing from 3-8pm.

The funeral service will be Friday, March 10, 2023, at Our Lady Consolata Parish in Sebewaing. Visitation will begin at the church at 10am until the time of service at 11am.

Burial will take place privately at Holy Family Catholic Cemetery in Unionville.

Memorial donations may be given to Our Lady Consolata, Knights of Columbus or to the family (c/o Allen Sakon).
