Josephine "Joyce" Houghteling

Josephine “Joyce” Houghteling of Caro, age 85, passed away on Wednesday, July 10, 2024 surrounded by her loving family. Joyce was born June 12, 1939, the daughter of the late Alvin and Vernita (Harris) Jaster. She graduated from Kingston High School and went on to work at a number of jobs, retiring from TI Automotive at the age of 73 after many dedicated years. Beyond work, Joyce’s true love and devotion were her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She poured her heart into raising them, instilling in them the values of kindness, resilience, and love. Her home was a haven of warmth and care, where the aroma of baking cookies and the sound of laughter filled the air. Joyce's life was a living example of selflessness and devotion. She found her greatest joy in the company of her family, celebrating their achievements, comforting them in times of sorrow, and offering guidance and support at every turn. Joyce’s gentle nature, coupled with her strength and wisdom, made her a pillar of the family and a source of inspiration to all who knew her.

Joyce leaves to cherish her memory, her children, Sue (Monte) Montei, Bob (Michele) Houghteling, Ron Houghteling, Lynn (Dan) Smith, Lisa Gillespie, Ray (Lori) Houghteling; many, many beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister, Ann (Larry) Rutkoski; sister-in-law, Ruth Jaster; several nieces, nephews, and friends. In addition to her parents, Joyce was preceded in death by her bothers, Martin (Norma) Jaster, Richard Jaster, Roy (Sharon) Jaster, and Henry Jaster; sisters-in-law, Linda (Howard) Stephens and Shirley (Calvin) Kelly.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, July 16, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Christopher Parish, Sacred Heart Church in Caro. Rev. Isaac Madanu will officiate with the burial following at Sacred Heart Cemetery. The family will be present to receive visitors on Monday, July 15, 2024 from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with a Rosary at 7:30 p.m. at Ransford Collon Funeral Home in Caro. On Tuesday, visiting will continue at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of her service at 11:00 a.m. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider memorial contributions to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
