Joy Perlene Kuhl, age 93, of Bay Port, passed away Tuesday, October 27, 2020 under hospice care at Bay Comfort Care in Bay City.
Joy was born August 10, 1927, in Bay Port, to Roy and Lena (Ballard) Dutcher. She was raised by Leona and Pearl Dutcher and after Pearl's death, Leona remarried Victor Henne. She graduated from Bay Port High School in 1945 and shortly after went to work as a secretary at the Positive Factory in Sebewaing and later worked in the factory itself. The Positive Factory later was known as Active Industries. She was later united in marriage to George W. Kuhl of Bay Port on August 29, 1946, after he was discharged from the army on her birthday at Fort Sheridan, IL. They celebrated 66 years of marriage until George passed away on Feb. 19, 2013. She was a homemaker and enjoyed gardening, playing the piano, canning and caring for the yard.
Joy is survived by her children: Roger Kuhl of Sebewaing, Debra and Behrend Schoettke of Bay City and Chris and Pam Kuhl of Pinconning; 9 grandchildren: Douglas (Briana Williams) Kuhl of WI, Curtis (Mi Hyang) Kuhl of PA, Timothy (Courtney) Kuhl of GA, Gregory (Holly) Kuhl of NH, Todd Reid of MI, Beth (Jason) Holben of MI, Kelly Schoettke and Matt Lesh of MI, Nichole Schoettke and Cristian Cooper of MI and Wendy Beach of MI.; 13 great grandchildren; sister, Lois Baumer; 2 sister-in-laws: Carole Kuhl of Vassar and Faye (James) Calaway of Sebewaing; and many nieces and nephews.
Joy was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister, Hope Winter, 4 step sisters: Ila Lorentz, Lucille Waski, Etta Miller and Shirley English; brother-in-laws: Kenneth Kuhl, Cecil Kuhl, Russell Kuhl, Norman Lorentz, Alexander Wasik, William Miller, Rand English, Herman Winter and Donald Baumer; sister-in-laws: Violet Grassel, Emily Kuhl and Janice Rocha; Father and Mother-in-law Arthur H and H. Donna Kuhl.
Visitation will be Friday, October 30, 2020, at Juengel & Mellendorf Funeral Home in Sebewaing from 2-8pm.
The funeral service will be Saturday, October 31, 2020, at Juengel & Mellendorf Funeral Home. Visitation will begin at 10am until the time of service at 11am. Rev. Charles Kuhl will be officiating. Burial will be at New Bay Port Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to DAV (Disabled American Veterans) or the Sebewaing American Legion Post #293.
