Joyce "Joye" Strye

Joyce Strye of Caro, age 90, passed away on Wednesday, May 15, 2013 at Caro Community Hospital, following a lingering illness. She was born March 17, 1923 in Grosse Pointe, the daughter of the late Henry and Crystal (Vogel) Gunter. She was a graduate of Grosse Pointe High School and was united in marriage with Robert E. Strye on August 10, 1940 in Detroit. He preceded her in death on July 3, 2002. Joye was self-employed as an antique appraiser, liquidator of estates and an auctioneer. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Caro, past president of the Caro Garden Club, Wixson and Questers Clubs, past secretary of the Michigan State Questers Association, a member of the State and National Auctioneers Association, Midwest Antique Appraisers Association, and the Caro Bicentennial Commission. Joye is survived by two sons and their spouses, Randall E. & Nancy Strye and Rodrick & Lori Strye, all of Caro; ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; her much loved daughter-in-law, Sharon Strye of Camp Verde, Arizona; two sisters, Joni & Lee Golombisky of Evert and Lois Campbell of Phoenix, Arizona. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Ronald E. Strye on August 10, 2000; her darling granddaughter, Crystal Strye; one sister and her husband, Crystal & Frank Noftz; and one brother-in-law, Ralph Barber. In keeping with Joye's wishes, cremation has taken place. A Memorial Mass will be held on at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 6, 2013 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Caro with Rev. Dennis Kucharczyk officiating. The family will receive friends at the church on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorial contributions to the Strye Family Discretionary Fund.
