Julia "Julie" Lee Holmes

Julia Lee Holmes “Julie”, age 65, died peacefully at her home Saturday, March 8, 2025 surrounded by her family and friends. Although she was raised in Detroit, her favorite days growing up were spent on her family’s property “Up North” in Caro. She was an excellent student, particularly in art and science and as a teenager won a significant art scholarship to further develop her natural talents.

When Julie was old enough, she left the city, moved to her beloved Caro, and never looked back. Throughout her life, she worked hard in many jobs with relentless dedication and served the community in various facets.

Julie loved her family, which was defined in broad terms by blood, marriage, and choice. Central in her circle were her husband George, kids, and grandchildren, but the circle extended to her many siblings, cousins, aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews, and dear friends. She was involved and invested in each of their lives and loved nothing more than spending time with her people, whether it be a family dinner, a camping trip, an annual canoe trip, a day at the casino, or playing cards.

Julie loved her home and her view, taking care of her yard, watching the animals, and sitting on her front deck enjoying nature. While she lived a quiet life, woe be to anyone who underestimated her pool game, her card game, or the passion of her convictions.

Julie was a fighter, and will be remembered for her strength, her humor, and her love of family.

She is survived by her children, Miranda Lapratt (David), Brandon Larkin (Kim), Mark Holmes (Julie), and Christy Dral (Jim); grandkids, Savannah, Brenna (Chase), Alistair, Salara, Ben, Harrison, Caroline, Rebecca, Caleb, Emily, and Beck; great-grandkids, Wynonna Kay and Wrenley; siblings, Aaron Larkin (Brenda) and Rick McCarthy (Emilie); cherished cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Pearl and George Gibor, parents, Sally Gibor and Duane McCarthy, and brother, Dennis Larkin.

She joins the love of her life, George A. Holmes, on their eternal adventure together.
