Julius J Hopka

Julius J. Hopka, age 89, of Elkton, died Saturday, September 25, 2004 at Courtney Manor in Bad Axe.
He was born in Buffalo, New York, on September 14, 1915 to the late Andrew and Bertha Hopka. He moved with his family to a farm in Sheridan Twp in 1929, and later to Owendale. He then served in the US Army in Europe during WW II. After his return home in he went to Detroit where he was employed at Chrysler Corporation for 32 years retiring as a glasscutter in 1977. A short time later he moved to Elkton to be nearer his family.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Detroit, St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church in Pigeon, and the VFW, Carpenter-Dorsch Post #6013 in Elkton.
Surviving are eight nieces and nephews, Sidney (Betty) Hurlburt of Elkton, Joanne (Thomas) Bubar of Shelbyville, IN, Phyllis (Dayton) Torrence of Petaluma, CA, Judy (Jerry) Stimmel of Ocala, FL, Susan (Larry) Hackney of Bakersfield, CA, Ron (Martha) Hurlburt of Aliso Viejo, CA, Henry (Carol) LaCross of Fenton and Bill (Mayra) LaCross of Redwood City, CA. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Mary Ann Hurlburt, Walter Hopka, John Hopka, Victoria LaCross and a niece, Jenny Schutt.
A funeral Mass will be at 11:00 AM Tuesday at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church, Pigeon, with viewing at church from 10:00 AM. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Elkton. Visitation will be on 2-9 PM Monday at the Champagne Funeral Chapel, Elkton, with at vigil service at 7:00 PM. Memorials may be made to the church of Oliver Ambulance of Elkton.
