Katherine Marie Long-Gwisdalla, age 64, passed away surrounded by her loved ones on Sunday, March 9, 2025 after a decade long battle with cancer. Katherine was born November 20, 1960 in Detroit, the daughter of Gerald Long and Ida Olivero. She was a nurturing caretaker before going to business school, ultimately leading her into secretarial work in the mental health field. Kathy married the love of her life, James C. Gwisdalla, Sr., in 1980 and again in December 2011.
A devoted mother, Kathy was deeply involved in her children’s lives, even serving as a scout leader for many years. She found joy in making others happy, cherished trips up north, and always looked forward to visits to the casino. However, nothing brought her greater happiness than her children, grandchildren, and beloved pets. Kathy’s warm smile, boundless love, and generous spirit will always be remembered.
Kathy leaves to cherish her memory, husband, James Gwisdalla, Sr.; children, James Gwisdalla, Jr. and Susan Gwisdalla; father, Gerald Long; grandchildren, Ashley Gwisdalla and Jeffery Fleischmann; great-granddaughters, Arielle and Aurora Ciaraldi; siblings, Naomi (Dave) Radcliffe, Scott Love, Chris Hebert, Robert Long, Gerald “Soddy” Long, Kelly Long, and Carole (Al) Martin; many nieces and nephews. Kathy was preceded in death by her mother Ida Olivero; adopted mother, Carol Long; and twin sister, Susan Long.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, March 14, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home in Caro. The family will be present to receive visitors on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of her service. Interment will be held at St. Michael Cemetery in Pinconning later in the day. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Tuscola County Medical Care Community for the exceptional care and compassion they provided Kathy during her time there. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society in memory of Kathy.
