Kathryn "Katy" Mitchell Schramkoski

Kathryn "Katy" Mitchell Schramkoski of Caro, age 69, passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, July1, 2020. She was born August 30, 1950 in Jackson, the daughter of the late John and Betty (Eicher) Mitchell. She was married to and is survived by Joseph Schramkoski III. Kathryn had a genuine appreciation and curiosity of people from all walks of life. She loved to pump people for information in a way that made them feel welcome and special. She was very generous and thoughtful while helping anyone without any thoughts of return expected. Katy was devoted to her family, friends and teaching community. Katy started her love of teaching special education children in 1976 after graduating from Western Michigan University. She held many roles of increasing responsibility for over twenty-five years with Highland Pines School and the Tuscola Intermediate School District. Katy started as a classroom teacher and worked her way through the ranks as a supervisor/principal and special education administrator. She held two master's degrees and was a member of the MAASE and MAISEA. After retiring in the early 2000's, she returned to work in Tuscola County school districts as a substitute teacher. She taught a range of subjects from English to Gym, and affectionately became known to a broad range of students as "Grandma Katy". She always had an abundance of wisdom and treats to hand out to her students. Katy will always be remembered for her effervescent personality, kind heart, goofy antics, strong work ethic and commitment to those she loved. She will be greatly missed and remembered often. Katy is survived by her devoted husband, Joe; two children, Bryan Magierka (grandson Landon Magierka), Amanda Magierka; one sister, Debra (Bob) Kuszmaul; two brothers, John Mitchell, and Jim (Cheryl) Mitchell; and "little sister," Katie Ozorowicz. She was a beloved aunt to multiple nieces and nephews, extended family, and a loving mother to fur babies, Madeline, Lily and Piper. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Valerie Mitchell. Katy's family will be present to receive friends at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home in Caro on Thursday, July 9, 2020 from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. A private graveside service will be held at a later time.
