Kay Louise Hutchinson, age 72, of Unionville, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 11, 2025, at MyMichigan Medical Center in Saginaw, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on September 24, 1953, in Caro, the daughter of the late Walter and Clara (Ruppal) Halabis. Kay graduated from Caro High School with the Class of 1971 and later attended Delta College. On July 19, 1975, she married the love of her life, Elden Hutchinson. Their marriage was blessed with more than fifty years together, two sons, one cherished granddaughter, and a lifetime of treasured memories.
Kay devoted over forty years of service to Caro Community Hospital (now McLaren Caro Region) before retiring in April of 2015. Her career began as a candy striper, followed by many years as a nurse’s aide, and concluded in her role as Ward Clerk. She was also an active member of the Women of the Moose and the Hospital Auxiliary, where she helped operate the hospital gift shop. In her younger years, Kay enjoyed playing volleyball and softball, later finding joy in bowling leagues in Caro and Cass City for many years. She loved camping with her longtime “Camping Group,” a cherished tradition that spanned more than forty-two years.
Kay’s happiest place was in the kitchen, baking delicious treats for family and friends, especially her famous English muffin bread. She had a true passion for decorating for the holidays, with Halloween and Christmas holding a special place in her heart. Kay was simply amazing, tough as nails and the rock of her family. She was genuine, selfless, and poured her heart into everything she did. If you needed anything, Kay was always there. She had a remarkable way of making everyone feel like family, whether you had known her for years or just moments. She was deeply involved in her family’s lives, faithfully attending sporting events and activities, never missing a game. Kay’s light, love, and kindness will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.
Kay leaves to cherish her memory, her loving husband, Elden; sons, David Hutchinson and Ryan Hutchinson; granddaughter, Vivian Kay Hutchinson; brothers, Tom Nowland and Mark (Melissa) Halabis; sister-in-law, Genevieve (Mel) McFarland; nieces & nephews, Jeff & Tina Hecht, Brian & Theresa McCoon, Brian Nowland, Aaron & Lucinda Nowland, Tim McFarland, Abbey Halabis, and Brady Halabis; several great and great-great nieces & nephews; the Camping Group; and many friends. In addition to her parents, Kay was preceded in death by her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Elden and Victoria Hutchinson; siblings, Paula Nowland and Alan Nowland; sisters-in-law, Carol Nowland and Betty Hutchinson; niece, Darlene Kozak; special friends, Dale Rae and Jennie Schneider.
Kay’s funeral service will be on Wednesday, December 17, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at the Caro United Methodist Church. Rev. Robert Paul Demyanovich will officiate with the burial following at Indianfields Twp. Cemetery in Caro. The family will be present to receive visitors on Tuesday, December 16, 2025 at Ransford Funeral Home in Caro from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and again at church on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of her service.
