Kenneth James Stefan

Kenneth James Stefan of Fairgrove, formally of Livonia, age 65, passed away on Saturday, February 22, 2025, from heart failure while on duty serving a primary service customer for DTE Energy. Ken was passionate about his career.

Ken was born April 27, 1959, in Highland Park, to Anthony and Verna Stefan, of Lithuanian and Austrian nationality. He received his Bachelor of Arts in Electrical Engineering from Michigan Technology College in 1984, after being inspired by a beloved grandfather/lineman.

As a precocious child, Ken never knew a time when all things " power" and electrical were not fascinating to him. Ken began his career for DTE Energy in April of 1987, working thirty-eight years with the company. He was a proud Union Member of Utility Workers Union of America #223. Ken was a respected Primary Service Rep. and cultivated relationships with customers, contractors, maintenance personnel, and a multitude of cherished DTE Linemen, Underground Cable Splicers, substation operators, and more.

Ken survived a double brain bleed in 2022 after a heart attack a few years prior and recovered miraculously to return to his rewarding career that challenged him and brought him so much contentment and pride. He believed that he had so much more to give. Ken was such a proud, strong man, not many saw his struggle, however, those who knew him well recognized his love of his power projects and the people he worked with.

These words cannot possibly sum up the life of such a focused, driven person, but it is a glimpse into knowing him.

He was a loving husband and father to two stepchildren that adored him. He was dedicated to his family and is survived by his beloved partner and wife, Tami Stefan of over twenty years and by so very many loved ones. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, and many aunts and uncles; whom he has now returned to.

He was blessed with a phenomenal memory, an intelligent brain for numbers, boundless energy, and a huge appetite for all things electrical. Ken will be remembered as always willing to teach and mentor anyone on his projects. Always willing to answer a call from a colleague and problem solve; Ever sharing his brilliance and all things power related. Ken will always be remembered for his sharp mind, kind heart, and passions: driving Lincoln Towne cars, drinking bourbon, collecting power insulators and tracking "WHERE’S GEORGE?" Bills. He loved chicken tacos and Mexican food.

Ken’s words below, written in 2022 will always be with us:

..."My habits and routines are productive. My love is true. I have tremendous skills. I work hard. I am honest. I care about my wife and family and I prove it every day. My vast knowledge is a wellspring of value in my industry and I offer it freely most days. I help people when I can and I teach people what I know. I hope I inspired others to build things strong that last. "

His beloved wife and mom writes to the community:
