Kody David Serges, age 26, passed away on Saturday, September 24, 2016 while on duty with the United States Navy, stationed at the Norfolk Naval Station in Virginia. Kody was born August 4, 1990 in Bay City, the son of David & Jodi (Fulton) Serges, and was a 2008 graduate of Caro High School. Shortly after his graduation, Kody enlisted with the Navy, a call to service that he wished to spend his entire life answering. He traveled the world on five deployments overseas, especially enjoying time spent in Athens, Rome, the Suez Canal, Spain, Germany and Portugal. He advanced in his field quickly, first on the USS Enterprise for several deployments as a Culinary Specialist where he served the officer's dining hall and would often cook for dignitaries and statesmen visiting the ship. Kody was also aboard the Enterprise on its final tour around the world before the carrier was decommissioned. Most recently, he sailed on the destroyer, Oscar Austin, as a Fire Engineer Technician. Nothing made Kody prouder than serving his country, except being a father. His life revolved around his daughter, Zoey, and long deployments away from her were a significant hardship. Known as "Toad" by family, Kody will be remembered as a man that could make even the saddest times happier with the right joke or an enormous hug. He was passionate and meticulous about everything that he did, traits that served him well in the Navy. Kody enjoyed music, writing, working out and sports of all kind. He was deeply committed to his family and friends and also had a soft spot in his heart for animals, especially his dog, Izzy. Kody is survived by his daughter, Zoey and his wife, Monique Serges of Virginia Beach, Virginia; his parents, Jodi & Mitch Quick of Caro; one brother, Joe Fulton of Caro; one sister and her husband, Kayla June & Josh Downing of Caro; grandparents, Grandmummy Kathryn Atwell & Terry Sanders of Sears, Al & Arleta Quick of Caro; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Kody was preceded in death by his grandparents, Hank & June Serges.
