Konrad Graf, Jr.

Konrad Graf, Jr., age 88, of Sebewaing, passed away peacefully on April 29, 2020 at his residence with his loving wife and family by his side.

He was born at home on May 27, 1931 in Boldogasszonyfalva, Yugoslavia to Konrad and Sophia (Brunner) Graf, Sr.

During WWII, Konrad fled his home in the former Yugoslavia by horse and wagon with his mother, brother, aunt, niece and nephew to Austria and lived there 2 years. Then they traveled to Germany and were reunited with his father who was a prisoner of war in Russia.

The family left Bremerhaven, Germany's Port, and took 10 days to cross the Atlantic Ocean, and arrived on March 31, 1952 to America in lower Manhattan's shore of the Hudson River. He could see in the distance the Statue of Liberty.

He was employed for 43 years at the Wallace Stone Quarry in Bay Port, Michigan, as a Crew Leader and had various other positions.

He served in the United State Army in the Panama Canal Zone in 1955-1957 as a Pvt. 1st Class Medical Corpsman.

While on military leave for 30 days, he was united in marriage to Alberta A. Buerker on October 15, 1955 at Berne Lutheran Church in Pigeon, Michigan.

He enjoyed visiting with people, hunting, gardening, cooking, watching soccer, his grandchildren and especially his great granddaughter, Addison.

He attended and was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Sebewaing, Michigan.

Konrad is survived by his loving wife, Alberta (Buerker) Graf; 3 children: Donald (Benita Taschner) Graf, David (Carrie Moore) Graf and Lynda Graf, all of Sebewaing; 2 grandchildren: Emily Graf (Kevin Johnson) of Fairgrove and Benjamin Graf (Victoria Schmidt) of Lake Orion; and great grandchild, Addison Johnson of Fairgrove; sister-in-law, Dorothy Graf; 3 nieces: Catherine (John) Clark, Karen (Jay) Brewer and Carol (Daniel) Drabek; nephew: Kenneth (Katherine Rankin) Graf; and several grandnieces and grandnephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, brother, Georg Graf, and niece, Sandra (Graf) Harbin.

Memorials may be given to Trinity United Methodist Church, Sebewaing, Michigan.

Funeral arrangements handled by Juengel & Mellendorf Funeral Home in Sebewaing.

A private funeral service will take place Friday, May 1, 2020 at the funeral home, with Rev. Pam Beedle-Gee officiating.

Burial will be at Grandlawn Cemetery in Pigeon.
