L. James White of Caro, age 82, passed away on Saturday, February 27, 2021 at the Tuscola County Medical Care Community in Caro following a lingering illness. Jim was born March 20, 1938 in Mayville, the son of the late Maurice & Dorothy (Thompson) White. He graduated from Mayville High School with the class of 1956 and followed his grandfather's suggestion to look into banking as a promising career choice. He did just that, and in 1956 took a position with Mayville State Bank as a bookkeeper and teller. In 1960, he began a twenty-year career with Peoples State Bank of Caro, retiring in 1980 as president, CEO and director of the Caro branch. Jim was a dynamic member of the community and proudly served as a leader of countless local boards including former president and treasurer of the Caro Rotary Club where he was also a Paul Harris Fellow, vice president of the Claude & Etta Andrews Foundation, director of the Tuscola County Medical Care Community, director of the Caro School Endowment Foundation, treasurer of Camp Pine Acres, president and director of the Caro Development Corporation, and vice president of the Watrousville-Caro Area Historical Society. He was also an active member for many years of the Colwood Church in Caro where he served as treasurer of the board. Jim was meticulous by nature with an attention to detail that was evident in virtually everything he did. He also possessed a discerning eye for collectables that he accumulated throughout his life. Left to cherish Jim's memory are his wife, Evelyn White of Caro; two daughters, Jill White of Caro, Melanie Williams of Imlay City; two granddaughters, Ashley Williams of Detroit, Erika Williams of New York; one sister and her husband, Bonnie & David Matthews of Prescott. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, William White. Jim's family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of the Tuscola County Medical Care Community's First Floor Memory Care Unit for the love and expert care they provided over the past several years.
