Larry D.O.

Dr. Larry Cole, 72, passed away at his home on Wednesday June 21, 2006 surrounded by his family, following a heroic and lengthy battle with cancer. He was born January 23, 1934 in Fairfield, Iowa, the son of the late Marvin T. & Gwendolyn G. (Phillips) Cole. Following his service in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict, he graduated from Missouri State University with a B.S. degree in Chemistry. He continued his education at Kansas City College of Osteopathic Medicine, graduating in 1968. Larry completed his residency training in Anesthesia and Intensive Care at Providence Hospital in Southfield, Michigan. He served as the Emergency Room Doctor at St. Marys Hospital in Saginaw for about five years before joining Bay Regional Medical Center as an anesthesiologist for the next ten years. After retiring from Bay Regional Medical Center, he opened a family practice in Millington and Vassar in 1995. Larry also became the doctor for both Tuscola and Sanilac county jails and the Chief Medical Examiner for Tuscola County. He was united in marriage to the former Jane A. Hansen on May 9, 1970 in Orchard Lake, Michigan. Besides his family, Larrys first love was helping people with his skill as a physician. Outside of his work, he enjoyed fishing and being out on the water in his boat. Larry is survived by his wife, Jane; two sons and their wives, Anthony D. & Amy Cole of Bay City, Dennis & Patty Cole of Waterford; his sister, Carol and her husband Lauren Halsey of Eldora, IA; his father and mother in-laws, Donovon C. & Maxine Hansen of Beulah; his special friends, Dan Diener; the McComb Elementary staff and the Deputies of the Tuscola and Sanilac Sheriffs Departments. Inside each person there burns an everlasting flame. A flame that signifies the strength of the human spirit. An inner light that never fails to remind us of our true selves. Larry, thank you for shinning your light on this world
