Larry Dean Mowry

Larry Dean Mowry of Fairgrove, age 80, passed away on Tuesday, October 20, 2015 at the Tuscola County Medical Care Community in Caro, following a brief illness. Larry was born August 5, 1935 at his lifelong family home in Wisner Township, the son of the late Luman and Lena Germaine (Cosens) Mowry. He was a 1953 graduate of Akron High School, and on June 23, 1956 was united in marriage with the former Bernice May Keyser at the Wisner United Methodist Church. Larry spent his working years on the family farm in addition to his twenty years as a supervisor at Fisher Body in Flint and four years at Saginaw Steering Gear. After retiring in 1987, Larry dedicated his life to serving others. A devoted member of the Wisner United Methodist Church in Akron, Larry served as a Sunday School teacher, sang for ten years with the Praise Quartet and several community choirs, and used his love of God and woodworking to create crosses that can be seen all around the world. He also loved his family deeply and always found time to be with them. A favorite family gathering spot was around a bowl of his freshly popped popcorn, a weekend tradition in the Mowry household, or at the family hunting cabin up north. He will be remembered as a social man that never met a stranger. Larry enjoyed duck and deer hunting, sharing the bounty of his beautiful garden, picking berries, and raising chickens and his kitties. He also served on the Board at Bay Shore Camp and as a counselor and volunteer. Larry is survived by his loving wife of fifty-nine years, Bernice May Mowry of Fairgrove; three children and their spouses, Kristy & Doug Colling of Unionville, Terese & Don Petro of Reese, Curtis & Tracy Mowry of Fairgrove; seven grandchildren and their spouses, Seth & Rachelle Colling, Tyler & Kylie Colling, Hannah Colling, Nathan & Cara Pike, Megan & Keith Edwards, Grace Mowry and Mason Mowry; seven great-grandchildren, Ella, Esther, Anna, Clayton and Luke Colling, Hoyt and Breslin Pike; uncle, Charles Cosens; aunt, Aerial "Midge" Cosens; sisters-in-law, Maxine and Sally Mowry; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Rose & John Nellett; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Jay and Donald Mowry.
