Laura M. Ewald

Laura M. Ewald of Unionville, passed away on Tuesday, August 19, 2014 at St. Mary's of Michigan in Saginaw, following a brief illness. She was born in Caro, the daughter of the late Carl and Jennie (Matthews) Downing, and was a Caro High School graduate with the class of 1946. Laura was united in marriage with Edward R. Ewald on October 5, 1955 in Caro, and he preceded her in death in 2004. She was employed as a bookkeeper for the Ashmun family at the Strand Theater in Caro for many years. Laura loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, painting and her dog. Laura was a member of the Unionville Moravian Church and the Order of the Eastern Star. Left to cherish Laura's memory are one son, Patrick Ewald and his wife, Laurie, of Unionville; three grandchildren, Matthew & Rachael Ewald of Unionville, Jessica Harmon of Caro, Brandi Ewald of Unionville; eight great-grandchildren, Aiden, Ean, Braelynn and Nolan Ewald, Alanna, Ashante, Jeffery and Wendell Harmon. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Wilma Vandervoort and Marjorie Tomlinson. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 23, 2014 at the Unionville Moravian Church with Rev. Raymond Orth officiating. Burial will follow at the Unionville Moravian Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home in Caro on Friday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and at the church on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society or the Alzheimer's Association.
