Lavern Donald Engelhard, of Unionville, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather left a blessed Christ-based life on earth for his eternal home in heaven on Monday, June 19, 2017 at the age of 90 years.
Lavern was born on September 3, 1926 in Unionville, Michigan to Emil and Bertha (Bitzer) Engelhard. He was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Unionville. Faith, family, and farming were three great blessings of Lavern's life.
He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Betty, whom he married on February 7, 1953 at Nativity Lutheran Church in Detroit. Also surviving are a son Dennis (Cindy) Engelhard of Unionville and a daughter Annette (James) Skibbe of North Judson, Indiana. Also left to celebrate his life are his grandchildren, Marissa Engelhard of Osage Beach, Missouri, Nathan (Amy) Engelhard of Unionville, Kayla Engelhard of Melrose Park, Illinois, and Kimberlyn Skibbe of North Judson, Indiana. Lavern was also blessed to be the great-grandfather of Lawson James Engelhard, who was born the day after his 90th birthday. Lavern is also survived by his sister, Marie Stoll of Saginaw and his sister-in-law Marjorie McCormick of Flat Rock. Many nieces and nephews also survive.
Lavern was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Eleanore and Edward Breitmeyer of Unionville, and his brother-in-law, Donald Stoll of Saginaw.
Visitation will be from 4-8pm Monday, June 26, 2017, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Unionville.
The funeral service will be Tuesday, June 27, 2017, at St. Paul Lutheran Church. Visitation will begin at the church at 10am until the time of service at 11am.
Interment will follow at Demorest Cemetery in Akron.
