Laverna Ida Kumaus Hedlund

Laverna I. Kumaus Hedlund, age 95, of Sebewaing, went to be with Jesus on Christmas Eve morning, December 24, 2017, surrounded by her family at the home of her daughter, Betty (Rodger) Willard in Farmington Hills.

Laverna was born July 30, 1922, in Sebewaing, to William and Ida (Kuehn) Rehbein. She and her late husband, Fred Kumaus, founded Fritz Electric Co. in Detroit. They owned and operated it for over 30 years until they retired and moved back to Sebewaing.

Laverna is survived by her sister, Frances Meyer of Sebewaing; daughter, Betty (Rodger) Willard; 4 grandchildren: Kami Kolkana of Florida, Bobby Mullins of Brighton, Chad Kumaus of Warren, and Brad Kumaus of Shelby Twp; and 12 great grandchildren.

Laverna is preceded in death by her husbands: Fred Kumaus and Henry Hedlund; and son, Gary Kumaus.

Visitation will be Thursday, December 28, 2017, at Juengel & Mellendorf Funeral Home in Sebewaing from 3-8pm.

The funeral service will be Friday, December 29, 2017, at New Salem Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 10am until the time of service at 11am.

Burial will be in the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society.
