Lawrence Edward Degg

Lawrence “Larry” Degg, 74, of Caseville died Monday, January 5, 2015 at Covenant Hospital in Saginaw.

Larry was born September 20, 1940 in Bay City to the late Lawrence and Edwinna (Theobald) Degg. He graduated from St. James High School in Ferndale in 1958. He married Mary Barbara Cooke on March 24, 1979 in Fraser.

Larry worked at GM in Warren, retiring from Chevrolet/EDS in 1996. After retiring he moved to Caseville. Larry became involved in Caseville Township government, initially serving 6 years on the Planning Commission, then briefly as a trustee. Larry was elected Caseville Twp. Supervisor in 2004 and has served in that capacity until his death.

He was an active member of Cross Lutheran Church in Pigeon, having served as the President of the Congregation and organizing much of the landscaping done around the church property. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and taking great pride in the appearance and maintenance of his yard and property.

He is survived by his wife Barbara; children William (Laura) of Troy, Shelle of Ferndale and Edward “Scott” (Jeannine) of Applegate; grandchildren Billy, Nika, Scott, Brittney and Zoie; step-grandchildren Amy, Jillan, Josh and Jay; great-grandchildren Jaxon, Adelyn, Noah and Easton; sister Betty (Bob) Collins of Oscoda; brother Edward (Patty) of Livonia; brother-in-law Walter (Mary) Cooke of Caseville; and the mother of his children Kathleen Harrison of Pleasant Ridge. He was preceded in death by his sister Joann Coppersmith.

Funeral Services will be at 11:00 am Friday, January 9th at Cross Lutheran Church, Pigeon, with Rev. Timothy Loehrke officiating. Interment will be in Caseville Township Cemetery.

Visitation will be 2-8 Thursday also at the Cross Lutheran Church in Pigeon and one hour prior to the service on Friday.

Memorials may be made to Cross Lutheran Church or the charity of the donor’s choice. Champagne Funeral Chapel of Caseville is handling the arrangements.
