Lawrence Edwin Ewald, age 89, of Unionville, passed away Thursday, October 24, 2019, at the Tuscola County Medical Care Community in Caro.
Lawrence was born September 20, 1930, in Unionville, to Otto and Susan (Schoen) Ewald. After graduating from Caro High School, he joined the United States Marine Corp. where he went overseas to Japan. He married Vida Holzwart on July 10, 1965, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Unionville. He worked at American Hoist and Derrick as a welder and Michigan Sugar as a laborer, retiring from the sugar factory as a seasonal employee at the age of 83. Larry enjoyed playing the harmonica and played in numerous nursing homes in a family musical group. He also enjoyed gardening, tinkering and was a master at lawn mower repair. He was an active member at St. Peter's Lutheran Church (Columbia Corners) in Unionville.
Lawrence is survived by his wife, Vida; 2 sons: Randall (Forlinda Mahiney) Ewald of Clearwater, FL and Brian (Elaine) Ewald of Caro; brother, Clarence (Dotsie) Ewald; grandchildren: Mark Ewald, Margaret Ewald, Nicholas Ewald, Michael Ewald, Jared Ewald, Christa Ewald, Jessica Jackson, Danielle Jackson and Nicole (Ben) Prime; 7 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Lawrence is preceded in death by 2 step children: Raymond Jackson and Brian Jackson; and siblings: Lydia Seeley, Mary Berry, Alfred Ewald, Mabel Marker, Mildred Nestell, Alvin Ewald, Elfrieda Guinther and infant brother, Edward Ewald.
Visitation and funeral service will take place Tuesday, October 29, 2019, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church (Columbia Corners). Visitation will begin at 10am until the time of service at 12pm.
Burial will take place privately at the church cemetery.
Memorial donations may be given to the family discretionary fund (c/o Randall Ewald). The family will split the funds with the family discretionary fund or St. Peter's Lutheran Church.
The family would like to send their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at the Tuscola Medical Care Community for the wonderful care their parents received.
