Lawrence M. Libby, Sr., 78, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Thursday, May 25, 2006. He was born August 7, 1927 in Detroit, the son of the late Spencer Hazel (Penrose) Libby. Lawrence served in the United States Navy at the Almeda Naval Base in California from 1945 to 1947. He was united in marriage to the former Violet L. Tonetta on June 12, 1948 in Detroit. Violet preceded him in death on September 6, 2003. Lawrence was employed as a fireman with the Royal Oak Fire Department for 34 years, and retired from the force as a Captain. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mayville and St. Leo Catholic Church in Bonita Springs, Florida. Lawrences greatest joy was spending time with his wife and family. He was an avid reader, and also enjoyed swimming, golfing, hunting, and fishing. Lawrence is survived by five children and their spouses, Carol Lauren Best of Howell, Mary Lowell Plotkin of Huntington Woods, Lorraine Ben Laird of Traverse City, Lawrence Kimberly Libby, Jr. of Caro, and Michael Karen Libby of Surrey, England; nine grandchildren, Tiffany and Brittany Best, Samuel and Hannah Plotkin, Emma and Marie Laird, Nicholas and Jillian Libby, and Ivery Libby; a brother and sister-in law, Spencer Diane Libby of Clarkston; sister, Kathleen Haughton of Murphy, North Carolina; sister-in-law, Gloria DeBella of Royal Oak and many nieces, nephews and friends. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Nancy.
