Lawrence "Spike" Spiekerman

Lawrence "Spike" Spiekerman of Caro, age 79, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 3, 2020 at his home, surrounded by his loving family. Spike was born June 9, 1940 in Gilford Township, the son of the late Edward & Minnie (Wascher) Spiekerman. He was raised in Gilford and attended Reese High School, later enlisting in the U.S. Army in 1961 during the Vietnam Conflict. Upon his honorable discharge in 1964, Spike worked for Michigan Sugar, Midwest Rotary, and owned and operated Mr. P.'s Party Store. He was proudest to serve as the Veteran Service Officer for Tuscola County in the last twenty years of his career, retiring in 2008. Spike was never really able to sit still, even in retirement, and began volunteering for Meals on Wheels. He was also a member and past commander of the Caro American Legion Post #7 and a member of Caro VFW Post #4164 and the Caro DAV Chapter #75. Spike was also active as the Bingo chairman for the American Legion in Caro and Bay City and the DAV in Sandusky. On October 16, 2013, he was united in marriage with his longtime companion, the former Linda Kaye Adams. Spike and Linda spent countless hours together playing Bingo and visiting casinos, volunteering with the veteran organizations, and helping friends in any way possible. He was also an avid bowler, participating in the Caro Leagues, and finally bowling a perfect 300 game on January 3, 1992. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Linda of Caro; two brothers and their spouses, Robert & Joyce Spiekerman of Reese, Dennis & Kathleen Spiekerman of Unionville; many nieces and nephews; and Linda's family that Spike took as his own. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Donald and Edward Spiekerman. In keeping with Spike's wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of his life and military honors will be held at his home on Saturday, June 20, 2020 at 5:00 p.m. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorial contributions to the Spiekerman Family Discretionary Fund, c/o Linda Spiekerman, 205 West Sherman Street, Caro, MI 48723.
