Lawrence Anthony Summers, age 86, of Grant Township died Wednesday, March 24, 2010 at home while under hospice care.
Lawrence was born April 17, 1923 at home in Grant Township to the late Ostrum and Wealtha (Sherman) Summers. He married Marguerite Cummings on October 3, 1942 in Royal Oak. Marguerite preceded him in death on July 18, 2003.
During World War II he served in the US Army in Europe. After the war he farmed and worked the night shift at Walbro. A Christian man and active member of the Gagetown Church of the Nazarene; he was a Sunday school superintendent and teacher. He enjoyed watching Tiger baseball, camping with family at Lake of the Pine near Lake George and gardening.
He is survived by his children Larry (Carol) of Gagetown, Marilyn Pierce of Gagetown and Gary (Gwen) of Grayling; grandchildren Tom, Chuck, Terri, Christy, Jason and Ciara; great-grandchildren Justin, Sydney, Ben, Dyllan, Lylian, Emily and Kendall; sister Loretta Woolner of Bad Axe.
He was preceded in death by his wife, brothers Clifton and Alton, and sisters Gretchen Severn, Reva Russell, and Hazel Atkinson.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM Saturday at the Gagetown Church of the Nazarene with Pastor Ben Walls officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Grant Township Cemetery.
Visitation will be 2-8 PM Friday at the Champagne Funeral Chapel of Elkton and one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church.
Memorials may be made to the Gagetown Church of the Nazarene.
