Lee E. McComb of Caro, age 86, passed away on Thursday, May 2, 2013 at the Tuscola County Medical Care Facility in Caro, following a brief illness. Lee was born July 24, 1926, the son of the late Benjamin H. & Bessie S. (Skinner) McComb. Lee served with the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II, serving in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre. Lee was united in marriage with the former Charlotte M. Brinkman on June 16, 1945. She preceded Lee in death on November 29, 2010. For over forty-one years, Lee was employed by Metcalf & Schrader in Caro as a fuel oil distributor and received recognition from Sunoco-Sun Refining and Marketing Company for his efforts. For many years, Lee was very active as a member of the Caro United Methodist Church, the Caro American Legion Post #7 for over sixty years, the Caro Masonic Lodge and the Boy Scouts. Lee served on the Caro School Board as a trustee and former president for over ten years and later on the Almer Township's Darbee Farm and Park committee. Almer Township Board, in recognition of Lee's efforts, named the road leading into the park, "Lee McComb Lane." Lee is survived by four children and their spouses, David & Barb McComb of Cass City, Barbara Niesen of Lapeer, Elaine & Bill Lynch of Grosse Pointe Park, Dale and Debra McComb of Gahanna, Ohio; nine grandchildren and their spouses, Pam & Joe Lawe of Millington, Brian and Julie McComb of Caro, Chris Vollmar of Cass City, Amy & Kevin Gentner of St. Johns, Mark & Jennifer Niesen of Lima, Ohio, Jonathan Niesen of Perry, Katherine & Eric Naber of Lake Orion, Christopher & Tracey McComb of Marysville, Ohio, Patrick & Renee McComb of Dallas, Texas; eleven great-grandchildren; several nephews, nieces, and great nephews and nieces. In addition to his wife and parents, Lee was preceded in death by his brother, Donald McComb; his sister, Jean Walt; his step-mother, Nina McComb and a son-in-law, James Niesen. Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 6, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the Caro United Methodist Church with Rev Gregg Mayberry officiating. Burial will follow with Military Honors provided by the Caro American Legion Post #7 and the U.S. Army at the Indianfields Township Cemetery in Caro. The family will receive friends at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home on Sunday from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. and at the church on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the start of the service at 11:00 a.m. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorial contributions to the Caro United Methodist Church.
