Lee A. Sleight

Lee A. Sleight of Caro, age 69, passed away on Thursday, October 24, 2013 as a result of an accident on his property. Lee was born July 19, 1944 in Caro, the son of the late Faye Lee & Sylvia Helena (Durnion) Sleight. He graduated from Caro High School and began work with Whalen Contracting where he hauled sugar beets and later retired from Eaton and Grede Foundry in Vassar as a crane operator. He also worked as an agent for Osentoski, J. McLeod and M. Wilson Realty Companies and was the owner of Action Auctioneering and had his own bump shop in Akron for many years. He was united in marriage with the former Cathie Noake on October 4, 2003 in Lapeer. Lee will be best remembered as a devoted follower of Jesus and a constant family man. He was a gun advocate and a member of the National Rifle Association and enjoyed deer hunting and fishing. Lee is survived by his loving wife, Cathie Sleight of Caro; three daughters and their spouses, Paula & Tim Hughes of Vassar, Lisa & Ron Avery of Caro, Sylvia & Scott Benjamin of Wakarusa, Indiana; grandchildren, Isaac, Alaina and Makinzy Benjamin, Samantha and Nathan Hughes; brothers, Bill Sleight of Caro, Pat & Joyce Sleight of Marianna, Florida; the mother of his children, Gayle Sleight of Akron; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and his beloved beagle, Abbey. In addition to his parents, Lee was preceded in death by one brother, George Sleight; and sister, Elizabeth Sleight. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 28, 2013 at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home in Caro with Rev. Jason Garwood officiating. Burial will follow at Almer Township Cemetery in Caro. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorial contributions to the Gideons.
