Lela E. Reibling, age 95, of Chandler Twp died peaceful Wednesday afternoon, July 22, with her family by her side while under hospice care.
She was born April 9, 1920 at the home of her parents, the late Charles and Minnie (Bleam) Heckroth in Chandler Twp. Lela grew up in Chandler Twp. and went to Chandler #1 on Limerick Road through the 8th grade and was a 1938 graduate of Elkton High School where she played in the Pep Band.
On December 24, 1944, she was united in marriage to Calvin Reibling at the home of her parents at Gotts Corner and made their home on a farm in Chandler Twp. Cal preceded her in death April 3, 2011.
Lela loved the country and enjoyed gardening both flowers and vegetables. She most enjoyed mowing their big yard and was still doing it by herself after age of 90. She was a wonderful artist, painting china, and giving it away to her friends and family. She was also an excellent baker, making cookies and tarts for the grandchildren and others.
She was a lifelong member of the Elkton United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School for over 20 years.
Surviving are her daughter, Nancy (Sid) Holodnick; of Port Hope three grandchildren, Stefan of Ann Arbor, Karl (Erin) of Northville and Peter (Erin) of Marquette and two great grandchildren, Charlie and Maeve.
Preceding her in death were two siblings, Fern Faupel and Ray Heckroth.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 AM Saturday, July 25, at the Elkton United Methodist Church. Rev. Craig Pillow, pastor will officiate with burial in Riverside Cemetery, Elkton.
Friends and family may call at the Champagne Funeral Chapel, Elkton from 2 to 8 PM Friday and at the church after 10 AM Saturday.
Memorials may be directed to Elkton United Methodist Church or Friends of the Port Hope Depot.
