Leland “Bud” Salgat, age 86, of Caro, passed away on Tuesday, October 16, 2007 at his home. He was born on October 28, 1920 in Almer Township, to the late Charles and Josephine (Vandervoort) Salgat. Leland Salgat and the former Ellen Damoth were married on January 27, 1945 in Caro. She preceded him in death on September 15, 1996. Bud was a self-employed carpenter and noted for his craftsmanship as well as his pleasing personality. He was a frequent attendee at the Caro Senior Citizens Center where he enjoyed cards and social interaction. Until his health curtailed his activities, he enjoyed hunting and farming as well as his flowers and fruit trees. Bud was a faithful attendee at the First Baptist Church in Caro. He is survived by five children and their spouses, Sondra (Thomas) Hadaway of Fairgrove, Yvette (Keith) Kasserman of Pigeon, Jan (Roxanne) Salgat of Caro, Todd Salgat and Kris Clemence of Caro and Kurt (Cynthia) Salgat of Bay City; eight grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; two brothers, Lucein “Lue” (Virginia) Salgat of Flint and Jay (Janet) Salgat of Caro; three sisters, Gladys Calihan of Detroit, Goldie Chiti of Detroit and Evelyn Montague of Caro. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Howard and Robbi Salgat; three brothers, Raymond, Wilbur and Elmer Salgat; and one sister, Sylvia Frederick. A memorial service will be held at the First Baptist Church in Caro on Friday, October 19, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Ronald Wigand officiating. Burial will be at Almer Township Cemetery. Visitation will be at the First Baptist Church in Caro on Friday from 9:00 a.m. until time of service at 11:00 a.m. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Caro or Caro V.F.W.
